Tunable narrowband entangled photon pair source for resonant single-photon single-atom interaction.
We present a tunable, frequency-stabilized, narrow-bandwidth source of frequency-degenerate, entangled photon pairs. The source is based on spontaneous parametric downconversion in periodically poled KTiOPO(4). Its wavelength can be stabilized to 850 or 854 nm, thus allowing to address two transitions in (40)Ca(+) ions. Its output bandwidth of 22 MHz coincides with the absorption bandwidth of t...
متن کاملNarrowband photon pair source for quantum networks.
We demonstrate a compact photon pair source based on a periodically poled lithium niobate nonlinear crystal in a short cavity. This approach provides efficient, low-loss, mode selection that is compatible with standard telecommunication networks. Photons with a coherence time of 8.6 ns (116 MHz) are produced and their purity is demonstrated. A source brightness of 134 pairs (s. mW. MHz)(-1) is ...
متن کاملCarving Complex Many-Atom Entangled States by Single-Photon Detection.
We propose a versatile and efficient method to generate a broad class of complex entangled states of many atoms via the detection of a single photon. For an atomic ensemble contained in a strongly coupled optical cavity illuminated by weak single- or multifrequency light, the atom-light interaction entangles the frequency spectrum of a transmitted photon with the collective spin of the atomic e...
متن کاملSingle and Entangled Photon Sources
This paper explores the fundamentals and applications of single and entangled photon sources. These sources are the ground works for advances in quantum communications, ranging from quantum cryptography to topics as peculiar as quantum teleportation. Single Photon Sources I. What is a Single Photon Source? A single photon source is an emitter of light that has all of its photons separated in ti...

The possibility of totally secure communication through the application of quantum mechanical properties was introduced in 1984 by Bennett and Brassard in their paper, “Quantum Cryptography: Public Key Distribution and Coin Tossing”. As Bennett and Brassard outlined, quantum communication makes it impossible for an eavesdropper to intercept a message without detection by the desired parties. Th...
